How I got here
My path to becoming a counsellor began long before I started any formal training. I grew up seeing people I loved — friends and family — struggle with their mental health, often without finding the right kind of support, or sometimes any support at all. It left a mark on me, especially when I tried to get close and help them. I remember feeling that I didn't know what to do for the best, or know how to help without making things worse. I got to thinking of my own mental health when I was younger and how I felt alone and began wishing there was more space for people to be openly heard and understood without fear or shame.
Roll on a few years and my dear friend, Claire, said something that changed my life: she told me she thought I would make a good counsellor and that she was considering this path herself. That simple moment of belief planted a seed. We decided to take the leap together, and began our training with Redlands Counselling and Training, embarking on what became a four-year journey of learning, growing, and discovering.
Those years were full of challenge, reflection, and transformation — both personally and professionally. And through it all, I’ve come to believe more deeply than ever that healing starts with awareness, with gentleness, and with permission to pause.
Why “A Little Friday Pause”
I wanted to create something small but meaningful — a weekly reminder to reconnect with yourself, even for a moment. It’s not about fixing or striving; it’s about being.
So each Friday, I’ll post a short reflection here and on Facebook — something you can read in under a minute, but hopefully feel long after. My hope is that this little corner becomes a space of kindness and calm — a pause you can carry into the rest of your day.
Wherever you find yourself today — tired, hopeful, or somewhere in between — take a breath. Notice what’s here, right now. That’s enough.
Here’s to a little more compassion, a little more gentleness, and a little more space to just be. 💛
